One of the earlier redesigns we were tasked with working on was the Education section of Stahls.com. Aside from the materials they sell, heat transfer vinyl education is the next biggest reason why users come to the site. Customers may have already bought the material, or maybe not — either way they now just want to know more about it and what they can do with it. The original design of the page when I first started at Stahls’ was just a landing page broken into sections with a ton of links. It wasn’t all that easy to navigate and find what you might be looking for.
So, we worked out various solutions to make this a better user experience. Now, I’m not entirely sure the solution we landed on is the best one, but it definitely took the Education section in the right direction. We created a system that used tags, sorting, filtering, and a search option. This helped users find something in the vast resources Stahls’ offers, including their massive video library as well.
Past to Present Comparison
The following screenshots show the evolution of this section from its design back in 2015 to where it is now in 2021. The current version is an accumulation of the research and concepts we did, that I’d like to think, evolved into what is hopefully a more useful tool for users
